Course Objective
This course provides an introduction to coding using the R statistical computing environment for plant science applications, including data manipulation and presentation, statistical analysis and biological system prediction and simulation.
Brief Content of the Course
This course provides an introduction to coding using the R statistical computing environment. The course will cover data structures, flow control and function writing, data and text manipulation, graphical and tabular data presentation, and programming practices and code maintenance. Applications in plant sciences, including analysis, prediction and simulation will be examined in detail. Students will be assigned a coding task relevant to the students research interest and projects. The course does not focus on statistical analysis and interpretation, but instead concentrates on the use of coding as a productivity tool for research scientists. Basic knowledge of statistical analysis and the general principles of computer programming is assumed, but students do not need to have extensive programming experience in other computing languages.
