The Zero Waste Forum 2026, which addressed developments in the field of environment and sustainability, was held with the participation of numerous representatives from public institutions, universities, local governments, and civil society organizations. Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University also participated in the forum, sharing its experiences with its work in environmental management and sustainability.
Our university was represented by Prof. Dr. Sevgi Demirel, Director of the Environmental Problems Application and Research Center; Dr. Hamdi Muratkaraçobanoğlu, Waste Management Coordinator; and Yusuf Kağan Demir, Member of the Sustainable Campus Commission. University representatives participated in various sessions and discussions on zero waste practices, sustainable campus initiatives, and environmental awareness activities.
Throughout the event, presentations and panel sessions on zero waste management, circular economy, resource efficiency, recycling practices, and the dissemination of a sustainable living culture were followed. The forum contributed to strengthening the sharing of knowledge and experience among institutions, while also providing opportunities for evaluating new collaborations to promote environmentally friendly practices.
Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University is resolutely continuing its efforts to develop zero-waste practices, promote the efficient use of resources, and strengthen the concept of a sustainable campus in line with its environmental sustainability goals. In this context, participation in the Zero Waste Forum 2026 has been an important opportunity for our University to improve its best practices in environmental management and to closely follow national-level initiatives.
At the end of the forum, university representatives emphasized the importance of inter-institutional cooperation for a sustainable future and stated that the work carried out in the fields of zero waste and sustainability will continue to increase.
