Food Engineering Department Iftar Program


As the Department of Food Engineering, we gathered for an iftar dinner with our faculty members and fellow students. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to our esteemed faculty members, particularly Assoc. Prof. Dr. Safa Karaman, Dr. Sinem Coruk, and Assist. Prof. Betül Oskaybaş Emlek, for organizing this meaningful event. We also appreciate the valuable presence of our Department Chair, Prof. Dr. Hasan Tangüler, along with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hande Baltacıoğlu, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cem Baltacıoğlu, and Assist. Prof. Mehmet Yetişen, as well as all our fellow students who joined us. Thank you for making this gathering a memorable one!

TECHNICAL EXPEDITION


Bor Gazozu and Atilim Bor Gıda San. Tic. A.Ş. factories on 03/01/2025 by our Food Engineering Club with the participation of International Agricultural and Related Sciences Students Society (IAAS), Agricultural Sciences Club and Livestock Research Club. We would like to thank our students, lecturers and company officials for their interest and interest.

Integrated Management Systems Information Training


The free Integrated Management Systems Information Training, which was implemented in cooperation with Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University and SGS Academy in order to benefit the development of students and the society, was held on 25-26-27 December 2024 with the participation of our university students. We would like to thank SGS Academy for providing this opportunity to our students.

HACCP Information Training


The free HACCP Information Training, which was implemented in cooperation with Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University and SGS Academy in order to benefit the development of students and society, was held on December 23-24, 2024 with the participation of students from the departments of Food Engineering, Nutrition and Dietetics, Food Quality Control and Analysis and Dairy and Products Technology. We would like to thank SGS Academy for providing this opportunity to our students.

First-Place Award at the 3rd R&D and Project Market Days Event


Our students Sinem Akalın and Sinem Gökal, under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emre Yavuzer and Dr. Hamza Alaşalvar, received the first-place award with their project titled "Production of Soft Candy Enriched with Fish Gelatin-Based Hibiscus Extracts" at the 3rd R&D and Project Market Days event hosted by our University. We congratulate our students and their advisors.

Our research project, supported under the TÜBİTAK 2209-A program, has been published in an international journal.


Under the supervision of Dr. Hamza Alaşalvar, a Research Assistant in our Department of Food Engineering, the article titled “Chitosan films tailored with deep eutectic solvent extracts from Hibiscus sabdariffa: Fabrication and characterization” by Food Engineering student Hasan Nazım Sürmeli, supported by the TÜBİTAK 2209-A Student Projects Program during the 2021 1st Term Call, has been published in an SCI-E indexed journal in the Q1 category.

A university student has produced a gluten-free cake from lupin flour.


A 3rd-year student from Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University's Food Engineering Department, Sinem Gökal, has produced a gluten-free cake for celiac patients.

Our research project, supported under the TÜBİTAK 2209-A program, has been published in an international journal.


Our project numbered 1919B012222127, accepted under the TÜBİTAK 2209-A University Students Research Projects Support Program, has been published in the Journal of Food Measurement and Characterization (Q2 category). Titled "Use of Waste Fermented Black Carrot Powder Dried by Different Methods as a Substitute in Noodle Production," this study presents innovative approaches to re-evaluating waste materials in food production. Congratulations to the students and faculty members of our department on their accomplishment, and we wish them continued success.

16 October World Food Day


Our World Food Day event, held on October 16th with the theme "Food Rights for a Better Life and a Better Future," was organized by our Food Engineering Club. The event was attended by our esteemed Rector, Prof. Dr. Hasan Uslu, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Murat Barut, Vice Dean, Prof. Dr. Metin Hakan Severcan, our department’s faculty members and students, as well as students from the Food Analysis Department of Bor Vocational School, along with their faculty members, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Boğa and Assoc. Prof. Fulden Karadal. Additionally, our Animal Production Club participated. We would also like to extend our gratitude to the companies Şimşek ARGE, Göknur Fruit Juice, Masterbronz, and Bor Gazoz for their support of the event.

Visiting to Our Instructors


As the Department of Food Engineering, we visited Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emre Yavuzer, who is the director of Bor Halil Zöhre Ataman Vocational School, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cem Baltacıoğlu, who is the director of Vocational School of Technical Sciences. We wish our esteemed professors success in their new duties.

2023-2024 Academic Year Graduation Ceremony was held.


The 2023-2024 Academic Year Graduation Ceremony of our Faculty was held with the participation of our Department members on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, in room 1923 at our University’s Congress and Cultural Center. Our graduate student Shizza SYED, who ranked third in the Faculty of Engineering, received her certificate from the Director of Niğde Organized Industrial Zone, Mahmut PEŞİN, and our Dean, Prof. Dr. Murat BARUT. At the ceremony, our Department Head, Prof. Dr. Hasan TANGÜLER, along with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cem BALTACIOĞLU, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hande BALTACIOĞLU, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emre YAVUZER, Assist. Prof. Dr. Ayşe ÖZBEY, and our department assistants were present. We congratulate our graduate student and wish her continued success.

A Gift Presentation Was Made to Our Friend Who Completed Her PhD.


With the organization of the Department of Food Engineering, on July 4, 2024, a gift presentation was held for Research Assistant Dr. Katibe Sinem CORUK, who successfully completed her doctoral education in the Department of Food Engineering under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hande BALTACIOĞLU, on the occasion of her graduation. The presentation was attended by our Dean Prof. Dr. Murat BARUT, our Vice Dean Prof. Dr. Metin Hakan SEVERCAN, our Faculty Secretary İlhan KILIÇ, Vice Dean and our Department Head Prof. Dr. Hasan TANGÜLER, and members of our department. We wish continued success to our faculty member.

LAST LESSON!


On May 31, 2024, our final-year students attended their last class and completed their studies. As the Department of Food Engineering, we wish them continued success in their future endeavors.

On 02.06.2024, the "Student-Alumni Gathering-2" was organized and held with the participation of our Department Faculty Members, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hande BALTACIOĞLU and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cem BALTACIOĞLU, along with Department Research Assistant Ayşenur İNCE, current students, and alumni. We would like to thank everyone who attended.

Under the organization of the Department of Food Engineering, on May 31, 2024, a gift presentation ceremony was held for Research Assistant Dr. Mehmet YETİŞEN, who successfully completed his PhD in the Department of Food Engineering under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Hasan USLU and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cem BALTACIOĞLU. The ceremony was attended by our Dean, Prof. Dr. Murat BARUT, our Department Head, Prof. Dr. Hasan TANGÜLER, Prof. Dr. Mustafa BOĞA, Lecturer Dilek YAPRAK USLU, and other Faculty Members and Instructors from our Department. We wish continued success to our Instructor.

Technical Visit


A technical trip to GÖKNUR Fruit Juice Factory was organized by our Food Engineering Club on 27.05.2024. Our second and third year students and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hande Baltacıoğlu, Research Assist. Dr. Mehmet Yetişen and Club Academic Advisor Research Assist. Katibe Sinem Coruk participated. We would like to thank Food Engineer Emre Karaaslan and Ayşenur Terzi for providing technical information about the production and the devices used in the factory and İlkyaz Baltacı for hosting us during our factory visit.

Training


In the training organized for graduate students within the Central Research Laboratory between 20-24 May 2024, our Department Faculty Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hande BALTACIOĞLU gave training on “FTIR and Raman Spectroscopy”.

Visit to our department from Abalıoğlu Yem Sanayi A.Ş.


Abalıoğlu Yem Sanayi A.Ş. paid a visit to the Department of Food Engineering. During the visit, discussions were held between our department and Abalıoğlu Yem Sanayi A.Ş. regarding university-industry cooperation. In this direction, Human Resources Manager Hasan Başkal and Production Manager Hulusi Günter and department academic staff exchanged views and shared information on R&D issues within the scope of bilateral cooperation.

With the contributions of the Food Engineering Club, a seminar was organized on 25.04.2024 at 15:00 on behalf of Yayla Agro A.Ş. with the participation of Quality Manager Elif Börekçi and Food Engineer İrem Hanım. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Safa Karaman, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hande Baltacıoğlu, Research Assist. Dr. Betül Oskaybaş Emlek, Research Assist. Dr. Hamza Alaşalvar, Research Assist. Dr. Mehmet Yetişen, Research Assist. Sinem Coruk and Research Assist. Ayşenur İnce, and our undergraduate and graduate students, we would like to thank Elif Börekçi for the valuable information she provided at the seminar.

TUBITAK 2209-A and 2209-B Information Meeting


An information meeting was held for the academic staff on 04/04/2024 at the Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Dentistry, and on 18/04/2024 at the Turkish Music State Conservatory for the projects to be carried out within the scope of the Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) 2209-A University Students Research Projects Support Program and 2209-B University Students Research Projects Support Program for Industry by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hande BALTACIOĞLU, Assoc. Dr. Emre YAVUZER and Assoc. Dr. Cem BALTACIOĞLU.

Student-Graduate Meeting


On 05.03.2024, a student-graduate meeting was organised by the Food Engineering Club and our Dean Prof. Dr. Murat BARUT, Head of the Department Prof. Dr. Hasan Tangüler, Department Lecturers Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emre Yavuzer, Assoc. Dr. Hande Baltacıoğlu, Assoc. Dr. Safa Karaman, Department Lecturers Assoc. Assist. Dr Betül Oskaybaş Emlek, Assist. Assist. Dr Hamza Alaşalvar, Assist. Assist. Sinem Coruk, department students and graduate students attended the meeting. We would like to thank Efsun Hançer, Melek Nesrin Önler, Cennet Kübra Gitmiş, Ayşe Fatma Demirci, Aslı Şan, Erol Ada, Gökhan Can Gökalp and Çağrı Kılıç who attended the meeting and shared their experiences with our students.

CAREER DAYS


Within the scope of career days at Şehit Bora Çelik, Cumhuriyet and Şehit Yakup Avşar Anatolian High Schools, students were introduced to the Engineering profession and Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University Faculty of Engineering departments.

TUBITAK Support for One More Project of Our Department


The project titled "Determination of Quality Levels of Fish Oils Obtained from Trout Residues through Machine Learning and Electronic Nose," led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emre Yavuzer from the Department of Food Engineering, with the participation of Instructor Dilek Yaprak Uslu from the Vocational School of Social Sciences, Department of Culinary Arts, and Research Assistant Mehmet Yetişen as a scholarship holder, has been awarded support within the scope of TÜBİTAK ARDEP 1002-A. The project aims to produce functional fish oil from waste fish heads generated intensively in the trout processing process in the region and the country, and to determine the quality parameters associated with it.

Presentation of gifts to our friends who completed their doctorate


In the organisation of the Department of Food Engineering, a gift presentation was made to Dr. Betül Oskaybaş EMLEK and Dr. Hamza Alaşalvar, lecturers of the Department of Food Engineering, with the participation of our Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan USLU and our Dean Prof. Dr. Murat BARUT for their successful completion of their PhD education. We wish our lecturers continued success.
