Course Objectives 
1Understanding the Concept of Education in the Historical Process: To enable students to understand how the concept of education has developed and changed in Turkish society from pre-Islamic times to the present day.
2Promoting Cultural and Institutional Heritage: To introduce important institutions in Turkish educational history (Enderun, Sıbyan schools, madrasas, ru¨ştiyes, Daru¨lfu¨nun, etc.) and discuss the impact of these institutions on social and cultural life.
3Examining Modernisation and Reforms: Ensuring that students understand the reforms, regulations and transformations in the education system from the Tanzimat to the Republic and up to the present day.
4Analysing the Relationship between Education, Society and the State: Examining the relationship between education policies and institutions and the social, political and economic structure of Turkish society.
5Discussing Educational Philosophy and Ideologies: Introducing students to the different philosophical and ideological orientations in Turkish educational history (Ottomanism, Islamism, Turkism, Westernisation, Republican-modernist approaches, etc.).
6Developing a Critical and Comparative Perspective: To develop the ability to examine developments in Turkish educational history in a comparative manner with different periods and societies and to make critical interpretations.
7Placing Current Education Debates in a Historical Context: Evaluating today's educational issues (curriculum, teacher training, higher education policies, private schools, etc.) within their historical development process.
8Seeing National and Universal Values Together: Introducing national elements in Turkish educational history, while also demonstrating their relationship with universal educational approaches.
