Course Objective
It is to develop students' technical skills on their individual instruments to an advanced level.
Brief Content of the Course
Accordion: Rast, Karcığar, Neva, Hicaz makamlar; finger exercises and etudes; irregular meter exercises on bass keyboard; two-hand coordination; performance of national and international works. Bağlama: Knowledge of long-air types; improvisation; different tunings and string setups; master performer analysis; accompaniment for soloists; performance of world music; recitals with various tunings. Flute: Technical skill development; contemporary repertoire; solo, duo, and trio works; school songs and national anthem; transposition; full scales practice. Guitar: Apoyando, tirando, arpeggio, barre, legato, ornamentation; pizzicato, tremolo, rasquado, golpe; three-octave scales; Turkish and Western period repertoire; technical and musical analysis; melody creation. Kabak Kemane: Bar and Semah exercises; Bozlak scales and transposition; stylistic characteristics; long-air performance; repertoire development with regional melodies. Kanun: Nikriz, Zâvil, Nihavend, Neveser, Şedaraban, Hicazkâr, Kürdîlihicazkâr makamlar; performance; taksim; transposition. Kaval: Dilsiz Kaval repertoire from Aegean, Mediterranean, Central Anatolia, Bulgarian/Macedonian systems; transposition; local performer techniques. Violin: Permanent and transitional playing in new positions; bowing techniques; spiccato, pizzicato, flageolet; national and international repertoire. Clarinet: Large-form works, scales and arpeggios; Uşşak, Hicaz, Karcığar makamlar; finger exercises; national and international repertoire. Double Bass: Playing in new positions; bow techniques; spiccato; double stops; etudes; concerto performance. Mey: Kerem, Yanık Kerem, Eviç/Misket, Zeybek, Halay, Barak-Barana, Horon, religious hymns; Ashik-style melodies; knowledge of local performers. Ney: Hüseyni, Hüseynîaşiran, Nühüft makamlar; transposition in different tunings; stylistic and school knowledge; analysis of neyzen performances and taksims; advanced technical exercises. Piano: Period repertoire; scales, arpeggios, cadences; harmony and form analysis; four-hand piano; chromatic exercises; contemporary, jazz, and Turkish composers; concert experience. Voice (Şan): Literature overview; Turkish and foreign composers; work analysis; correct posture and expression techniques. Tambur: Right- and left-hand etudes; taksim practice; performance analysis; different tunings; method exercises; fret transpositions; knowledge of bowed tambur; recital performance. Tar: Şur, Segâh, Zerbi muğams; advanced techniques; Azerbaijani repertoire; accompaniment skills; concerto performance; reading and advanced plectrum techniques; work analysis. Ud: Saba, Bestenigar makamlar; etudes and works; Peşrev, Saz semaisi, Longa, Şarkı forms; transposition; chord techniques; different frets; taksim. Three-Stringed Kemençe: Şehnaz, Şehnazbuselik, Şedaraban, Hisarbuselik, Evc-ara makamlar; performance, transposition, taksim; position mastery; accompaniment skills. Viola: Fifth position and transitions; double-stop and scale exercises; national and international repertoire. Cello: New positions; bow techniques; spiccato; scales; national and international works; seventh position; repertoire development.
