Brief Content of the Course

This course addresses the historical development of space exploration and utilization, technological advancements, and their impacts on international law and politics. It examines the foundational texts, normative principles, and flexible regulatory instruments of the international space law regime. The emergence of new space actors, shaped by the growing involvement of both states and the private sector, is analyzed within the framework of global space governance.

Contemporary issues such as the use of artificial satellites, commercial space activities, space debris, military space capabilities, space traffic management, and the sustainable security of outer space are explored in depth. Turkey’s national space policies and their position within the international system are also evaluated, with particular attention to the role they play in the evolving global regime—approached from the perspective of International Relations.

Ultimately, the course aims to contribute to the formation of future space policy-makers capable of responding to the complex dynamics of the space domain.
