Meeting Event with Vegetable Producers in Çukurkuyu Town

An event organized by Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University and the Niğde Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry was held in Çukurkuyu, Niğde province, to listen to the problems of vegetable producers and develop solutions.

The event was attended by Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Uslu, Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies Prof. Dr. Ahmet Şekeroğlu, Niğde Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Furkan Mete and his accompanying delegation, university academics, the Mayor of Çukurkuyu and the neighborhood headman, and numerous producers.

The event included a question-and-answer session and free discussion session with producers, where producers discussed the main problems they face, and academics and institutional representatives shared their proposed solutions. Key topics highlighted during the meetings were: These factors include: • Low producer earnings due to marketing problems and dependence on intermediaries;
• Rising input prices (fertilizer, diesel, pesticides, etc.) and rising production costs;
• Insufficient irrigation water and rising electricity costs;
• The need for storage and processing facilities due to the inability to utilize surplus produce.

During the event, a survey was administered to producers, and information was provided on pesticide use and responsible spraying methods.

The program concluded with producers expressing their satisfaction with the attention of university and institutional representatives and best wishes from the participants.
