WoCo2026 Day 9: Çanakkale
On the 9th day of the International Association of Students of Agriculture and Related Sciences (IAAS) World Congress WoCo2026, participants took a trip to Çanakkale, one of Türkiye's most important historical and cultural sites.
Departing from Bursa Uludağ University early in the morning, the delegates crossed the Çanakkale Strait by ferry and reached the Gallipoli Peninsula. Throughout the day, they visited important sites bearing the traces of the Çanakkale Battles, giving participants the opportunity to learn about Türkiye's historical heritage firsthand.
The program began with a visit to Kilitbahir Fortress. Delegates learned about the fortress, one of the important defensive structures of the Ottoman period, and then proceeded to the Seyit Onbaşı Monument to listen to the heroic story of Seyit Onbaşı, one of the symbolic figures of the Çanakkale Epic.
The trip then continued to the Çanakkale Martyrs' Memorial. During the visit to the monument, one of the most important symbols of the Turkish nation's struggle for independence, participants were informed about the historical significance of the Çanakkale Battles and the sacrifices made by the Turkish people.
Following the lunch break, the program continued with a visit to the 57th Regiment Martyrs' Cemetery. Delegates learned about the role of the 57th Regiment, which demonstrated great self-sacrifice under the orders of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and changed the course of the war, and respectfully commemorated the memory of the martyrs.
Later in the day, Conkbayırı was visited, and one of the critical points of the Çanakkale Battles was examined on site. Here, participants learned about the strategic dimensions of the war and had the opportunity to see the areas where history unfolded up close.
