Dean Prof. Dr. Ahmet Şekeroğlu Guest on AGROTV

During his appearance on AGROTV, Dean Prof. Dr. Ahmet Şekeroğlu discussed why prospective university students should choose the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies, the broad vision and opportunities the faculty offers students, and the "Agricultural Career Cafe" initiative.

Touching upon the opportunities provided throughout the academic year, Şekeroğlu emphasized that all students admitted to the faculty receive non-refundable scholarships from the Ayhan Şahenk Foundation, with varying amounts depending on their academic ranking. He stated that students ranking in the top 50,000 in the YKS (University Entrance Exam) receive 26,000 TL, those ranking between 50,000 and 150,000 receive 13,000 TL, and all other students receive 6,500 TL. He also noted that students' accommodation needs are fully and securely met through the Ayhan Şahenk Student Dormitory located within the faculty.

The Dean highlighted the faculty's distinguished academic staff, many of whom hold doctorates from abroad. However, it was emphasized that being the only faculty among public universities in Türkiye that offers entirely English-language education in agriculture creates a significant advantage for students to compete at a global level.

The speech highlighted the state-of-the-art laboratory infrastructure established with the support of the Ayhan Şahenk Foundation. It was stated that there are extensive application areas in every field of plant and animal agriculture, including dairy farming, sheep farming, poultry farming, orchards, greenhouses, and field crops, allowing students to gain hands-on experience in the field immediately after theoretical lessons. Furthermore, it was mentioned that a sales office is actively operating within the faculty, directly distributing products such as meat, milk, honey, vegetables, and fruits to the public, and that a new milk processing center is planned to be established within the next year.

Finally, it was shared that the faculty is completely different from the classic agricultural faculty structure; it offers education with modern departments such as Plant Production, Animal Production, Biosystems Engineering, and Agricultural Genetic Engineering, which is unique in Türkiye. It was announced that the first "Precision Agriculture and Agricultural Robotics Department" in Türkiye has been opened to keep pace with the technological transformation in agriculture. It was stated that regular meetings with sector representatives are provided through the "Agricultural Career Cafe" initiative, launched to support students' career planning, and that academic knowledge is successfully transferred to regional farmers through the "Agricultural Science Cafe." The event concluded with a detailed explanation of how students' sectoral vision is broadened through hosting numerous national and international conferences.
